About the Department

Established in 1961, the UG Department of Botany, Government Autonomous college Angul, is recognized for excellence in teaching in major areas of Plant Science in general. The Department offers Graduate Course (B. Sc. Honours) for three years duration for which admission is made through All Odisha SAMS, Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha. There is semester system of examination along with regular internal evaluation. The Department offers honours in Botany for pure and applied branches. The department also offers Interdisciplinary courses like EnvironmentalScience and disaster management & Minor Elective (Biology). The students also submit a dissertation/projects on their Discipline specific elective subject besides giving seminar presentations. In addition to class room teaching, guest lectures, seminars, elocution completions and quiz tests are conducted regularly for training and overall skill development of the students. The students, staff and invited guests deliver lectures in the weekly seminars. Study tours, field visits and visiting reputed institutes like CSIR-IMMT(Institute of Mineral and Material Technology), RPRC located at Bhubaneswar are regularly organised for practical training. In addition the faculty members, besides class room teaching, attend faculty development programme like refresher/Orientation courses and workshops/International/National seminars. Several students of the department have qualified CUET & CPET entrance examinations and have joined various State & Central Universities. Some of our students have also qualified to pursue Doctoral Research Programme in different Central Universities/Institutions.The department has a vision and mission to impart innovative teaching, value-added learning to enable Botany students to handle social challenges through creativity and competency. The department has a mission to disseminate knowledge and to pursue higher study for interdisciplinary research in modern and competitive areas in plant sciences, to create a platform for nurturing plant loving attitude and aptitude among all sectons of people in the state.
